Prepare your cable for recycling without extra work
A few practical steps make an enquiry clearer. You do not need to turn preparation into a second job.
Keep cable separate from rubbish
Keep cable away from liquids, general site waste and hazardous items. Separate bare copper, insulated cable and other metals where safe and practical.
Ask before stripping
We buy insulated copper cable, so stripping every piece is not required. Ask about the insulated value before spending time on preparation. Do not burn insulation or handle cable that may still be connected to power.
Show representative material
Take an overview of the whole load and a close-up showing a representative selection of cable ends. If only the top layer is clean, show the material beneath it too.
Describe how it is stored
Mention bags, bins, drums, pallets or loose coils, plus your best weight estimate. If you are unsure, choose “Not sure” rather than inventing a precise weight.
Make separation proportionate to the benefit
Separate easy-to-identify material groups such as bare copper wire, insulated cable and plumbing scrap where this is safe and straightforward. Do not spend a day dismantling connectors or stripping every offcut before asking whether it will improve the overall return. Labour, equipment and disposal all count when comparing preparation options.
Be honest about the mixture
A bin can look uniform from above while containing different cable underneath. Describe the full mix, including known aluminium conductors, connectors, plugs and attached steel. Show an existing cross-section when available. Never cut or disturb an electrical installation for a scrap photo; removed cable must be safe and lawfully available for sale.
Think about the handover
Tell us whether material is loose, in bags, on pallets or on drums. Avoid overfilling containers or assuming they can be lifted by hand. Mention access restrictions and any loading equipment available. Pickup suitability and charges must be confirmed directly; entering a preferred date is not a booking.
Use a short checklist before submitting
Have a whole-load photo, representative close-ups, suburb and an honest quantity estimate ready. Choose “Mixed / not sure” where necessary. Keep ID and bank details out of the form and photos. Read the enquiry information, then submit. Your reference confirms the request was saved, and the final transaction remains a separate agreement.
